*Winter in the City*
New York City, the city that doesn't sleep. My family and I went on a small Fun Bus trip to the city this past weekend. The trip was filled with shopping, eating, lots of walking and fun!
The first thing we did was stop in to see The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular... which was AMAZING as always. With the beautiful costumes, high kicks, and perfect precision, what's not to love? The whole family will enjoy the Christmas Spectacular, with Santa and a wonderful story line for the kids, to the great vocals, music, and dancing for the parents, and lovers of the preforming arts.
Next we made a stop at La Maison Du Chocolat. This place has stores in France and now stores in NYC. There are four locations in New York. We went to the one in the Plaza Food Hall. There I bought a box of delicious macaroons (chocolate was my favorite) and wonderful and rich hot chocolate. Of course it was a little pricey, but I honestly think it was worth indulging a bit.
Of course we had to visit FAO Schwarz and play on their BIG PIANO! Its always fun to walk through the store and look at the amazing (and expensive) toys. Inside, there is a toy car building factory, where a kid can design, and build, their own car. While there I saw a GIANT stuffed bear that I feel in love with, but my love wasn't quite worth $1400
We did A LOT of walking, but what do you expect when you're in the city. Although we could have taken the subway, we didn't. We walked almost everywhere we went except for when my mom's shoes began to hurt her feet, and fall apart. So, we took a cab to go to a shoe store. Remember ALWAYS bring comfortable shoes when you know you will be walking all day! I know style is key, but when you cannot walk because of the blisters on your feet it defeats the purpose.
According to my dad's step tracker, we walked over 16 miles! We walked through central park, and almost everywhere we went, so keep that in mind if you plan on making a first time trip to the city. We were lucky and had WONDERFUL weather for NYC in the winter. With a high temp of 54 degrees, and a low of 39, a thick sweater, scarf, and hat were sufficient for most of the day. Although, when it got later I did need my coat and gloves while outside.
I LOVE New York, with its crazy bustling streets, full of people and things to see, but my favorite thing is going to the less touristy streets, and going to some family restaurants. My all time favorite is Georgio's Country Kitchen. I have never had anything I didn't love there. From their amazing pastas like alfredo, or lobster ravioli, to their salads, and burgers, everything is amazing!
